FENA is the European organisation for national trade associations
whose members sell furniture and home furnishings to domestic consumers.
|
The main objectives of FENA are to determine and defend the common interests of its
members and to provide these members with general information of the market and laws
of the sector.
FENA also represents the sector in front of administrations and
european organisations.
|
|
FENA can trace its lineage back to a meeting at the Cologne Furniture Fair in 1956
when the representatives of 11 countries met by coincidence.
| |
The German Federation subsequently organised a congress (held on 6 February 1958),
which was attended by official delegations from Belgium, Denmark, France,
the United Kingdom, Luxemburg, The Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland.
 | A further meeting, organised by the French to strenghten
the collaboration, took place in June 1959 and the "Articles of Association"
of FENA, "Fédération Européenne du Négoce de l'Ameublement", were approved, in Paris,
on 30/31 October 1959.
The first members of FENA were the National associations of Belgium, France,
the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
|
| The Articles were modified in 1966, 1970 and 1971 and FENA was "restyled" in 2001 when
the Articles were renewed, a new Board of Directors was chosen and, in order to
create a firm legal base, FENA was converted to a "non profit association" with
an office in Brussels. Click here for a map.
